Progress Update - Filming Today

We are filming the story section of our music video today, as we completed the filming for our draft on Friday night, all we need now is to film our story section, which contains a husband and wife breaking up due to a partner cheating.

Today's Weather forecast is; Cloudy, chance of rain, grey/dull, possibly windy but not going to be strong.

Prop List

Yet again I forgot to put this on the blog, sorry.

It isn't quite finished as I am trying to update it with any props we may need (that aren't listed) for the background, actors props, etc.

Possible Actors

I know this is a bit late going on to the blog but I forgot to upload it, as we are still deciding on our final actors, we are hoping to use Damon's Sister and Brother in Law, but it depends on whether they are available to film, as there is a possibility that they are busy.

Disc Designs - inspiration

decision on what software I will be using for digi-pack

after looking into the interface, the features and the design of the three pieces of software I have decided to go with using Corel Paint shop pro and this is because it is always available to me, so this means that I can use the software to make our CD cover and label at any time and on any day, I have lots of experience . although Photoshop has more features in it, there is not much difference between the two main pieces of software as they have most of the same features and they are both concentrated on editing photos.

I have chosen to use Corel Paint shop pro...

a look into Photoshop for CD cover and label

The software here is called Photoshop and this is available to me via Lutterworth college and as you can see in this picture below there is a lot of different functions that it has and it is also a peice of software that is fully concentrated on editing photos. I think that this would be very good to use for making our CD cover and label, however I am not very experienced in using it.

a look into Paint shop pro for CD cover and label

The software here is called Paint shop pro and this software is available to me all of the time as it is on my laptop and as you can see the software is similar to Photoshop, but it does not have some of the elements that are in Photoshop. This software is fully concentrated on editing photos as there are lots of functions that allow the user to edit an image. This software is possibly the one that I will be using as it is the best software that I have and that is also all ways available to me all the time.

a look into Paint for CD cover and label

the software here is called Microsoft Paint and this software is available to me either by my laptop or the colleges computers. as you can see this software is not as advanced as the other two pieces of software and it has barely any features for editing the images so for that reason this software will not be used by me for when I am making our CD cover and label.

Editing - Software

During the editing we are not entrely sure which software we are going to use, although we have varied range of different software at our disposal, these pieces of software includes;
  1. Adobe Premiere Elements (school pc's)
  2. Apple iMovie (school's Mac)
  3. Sony Vegas Pro 9.0 (My computer and Darrens computer)
  4. Apple iMovie 11 (my laptop)
This range of software, are all good pieces of software, but we probably won't be using the schools mac's or pc's, we would prefer to either use iMovie 11 or Sony Vegas Pro 9.0.

software ideas for digi-pack

although I am not sure which software that I will be using to make the CD cover and label, I have been thinking about what software in which I will be using and the software that I will be thinking of using is either: Adobe Photoshop, Corel Paint shop pro or windows paint. I will be looking into what would be the best software to use as I have no idea which will be best...

CD cover research

I have been looking into all of the different types of CD covers that exist in the genre of Rock and here are a few of what I have been looking at:

Website Draft Designs

I have been messing around with some draft designs for our website, I have been looking at other websites and have found some pretty interesting different websites for bands which are of the same genre as our band and song. Although there artists are of the same genre of music, they're websites don't have much similarity in designs, for example;

Linkin Park's Enter page
Queens of the Stone Age - Homepage
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Enter page

I'm not sure which software I'm going to use I have a choice between iWeb 11 from Apple based on Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Adobe's Dreamweaver mx 2004 on Windows 7.
Whilst Dreamweaver allows for the user to create a website from scratch, Apple's iWeb allows the user to add some very apathetically pleasing widgets, effortlessly. But at the moment I like the idea of making my website flash based so I can add some nice features as well as animation to it, this means I will probably use Dreamweaver but get some widget inspiration from iWeb.

I may post some printscreens of some draft designs tomorrow or if I get time I'll publish a site which has images and live drafts so you'll be able to use them to see which you think is best.

Filming Errors

Last night we started our filming of our draft for the second time, after the first time we filmed it in a car park which with in an hour or so the car park's lights where turned off. after some errors (including, getting there and people getting a date with everybody being free to film) trying to re film in the Rugby, We decided that we were going to film in Croft for our draft. We arrived at 4 o'clock ish and started at about 4:20pm ish after setting up the drums, guitars, camera's etc. We spent about 2-3 hours filming, but in review of our footage today we discovered we where missing of shots that we thought we had filmed last night. Although we are now missing some these shots, we have to film them again, and as a consequence we are no planning on filming tomorrow after school, we have checked and the weather(please see weather app below) should be the same weather and are allowed to film in the same location.

We are also planning on filming the story section of our music video on Sunday afternoon, This is the best date for us to film as we are available to film that day. Although the weather says that there is a possibility of rain, this may only affect some of our filming as we are going to be filming inside, but also out side but for  the minority of our time spent filming.

Digital Media Pack

I have been researching websites for our digital media pack, I wanted to embed websites onto my blog, although I found the code to allow embeding, but it didn't work correctly.

I have been looking at Green Day, Linkin Park, Foo Fighters, and Red Hot Chili Peppers' website they all have enter/entrance pages.

I like idea of including a enter page into the website as well as images

cd design

I believe that we should have a cd layout, similar to this, e.g. with a picture, song titles, band and album title, record label title/logo along with the autifentication numbers and text.

cd printing

For our cd design we are planning of having an image printed onto the cd, it may not be the exact same image as album cover, as normally a professional cd would have a different image.

website research

I have been looking into a variety of different rock websites to pick up all of the different conventions hat they use and in the image below there is a screen shot of the green day web site:

as you can see the image that I have taken from the green day website it looks like a typical rock website as most of the colours that have been used are mainly dark and the text that is on the page is all in punk / graffiti. also all of the titles that are on the site are made with flash and this means that they are animated, if we can i think that we should use flash when we make our website.

New Location - Croft

We are going to film in Croft, for our draft, this location will be the set for the band performance section of the music video.

music video filming date

we have decided to stasrt our filming for the draft at Croft pub on the 27th of october 2010 as the fore cast for this date is clear skies and this was the perfect conditions for when we will be doing our draft filming. here is an image of the weather forecasting systems that are on my blog:

alternative location idea (croft pub)

here are the images of the skittle alley that I have taken and I have also asked boss at the pub if we could use this area for filming our video and they had said that we could use the skittle ally and that we need to decide on a date that we will be using it as we will need to book it for the date that we are using

in the pictures above there are shots of an inside of a skittle alley that belongs to the local pub, although we are

BA Location change possible

We have been having difficulties recently with filming our draft. We started filming on Monday evening/night, in the Clock Towers, Rugby, but the lights of turned off which left us in an empty car park in the dark, unable to film, although we did get some shots we didn't complete the necessary shots. We have tried to rearrange with everyone the best day to film, and we are having difficulties getting everyone to rugby to film at Damon's uncles and the Clock Towers, so I propose we film at the location above in the pictures (only the car park ones), this is easier for Me, Darren, Rhys and Alex (actors), haven't had chance to speak to Damon as he is working today, but he will also need to ask his Sister and Brother in Law (actress and actor) whether it would be better for them to film here, but it is definitely closer. It wouldn't be quite what we originally planned and maybe we would still be able film in the planned places for our final film but as we need to get some decent shots for our draft production, we are now under some extreme pressure to get it completed soon.
So moving location for at least our draft filming would be the best option for most of us if not all of us, as we wouldn't be wasting time getting to rugby 3 of us would be able to walk, and others would have  to arrive by a short 5-10 min car drive compared to 25/30 mins.

I am still thinking of a place to film instead of inside Damon's uncles house and rugby town centre but maybe Broughton Astely village centre Chill Out Cafe would be able an idea for the coffee shop scene.

alternative location ideas for our filming

because of there being difficulties in the Rugby Car park location such as getting drums there, the lighting and availability of actors we have decided to look into more locations that are closer to where we live and I will be looking at a skittle alley in my local village that is owned by the pub and this is because I will be able to get drums up there and there is also a stage inside of the building. I will be looking at the building later on and I will also be taking some photos of the building to look research into with Nick and Damon to see what would be the best location that we have found.

idea for filling in storyboard with music....

because our storyboard takes around 1 minute to get to the music beginning to play I think that we should use a keyboard and just repeat the first couple of seconds that are playing as the keyboard as this will fill in the empty space that is in the music and it will also fill in some of the generic conventions that our storyboard did not meet the first time round and below is an example of what I'm on about

in this MP3 document there is the beginning of the music that we have chosen and I have edited the beginning of the song to extend it.

Prop list for our performance side of video

This is a Prezi Presentation which shows the props and equipment that we will need when we film the performance side of the video I have stated the name of each time and also included images for each one which I took myself apart from the drum set image. The reason I choose Prezi is because it is a different way of presenting my work and also the finished product looks great.

video on how to use colour isolation

editing ideas for our music video

another editing idea that i have had is called colour isolation and this is basically making everything in the video turn black and white, but then there is a certain image in the clip that has colour in it fore example the flower in the image below:
as you can see the first thing that catches your eyes are the flowers that the woman is holding and this is because they are the only things in the picture with colour, therefore making the audience concentrate on the colour as it is more eye-catching. this is where I got my idea from and it will help show the audience some of the really important props that will be in our music video, therefore it will be useful to use. I will be looking into how to use the colour isolation editing.

Schedule for filming

This schedule shows what I am hoping to achieve during the filming procedure of the video I created the schedule on Hot mail and if you click on the information it will take you to the original calender on hot mail however as you can see the boxes see to run over the time but this is due to the boxes needed to be bigger to view all the information but on hot mail it shows how long each task is going to take.
At the top of the post you can see that that you can view the information on daily basis, weekly and monthly so by selecting it will adjust the information accordingly.
The reason that I have created this schedule is because as I am the director I need to have a plan of what needs to be done and by when other wise things would never get done the schedule created above shows the filming schedule, which I have split into two sections the performance and the narrative. The reason for this is that they are located in different locations so having them on separate days means we will not have to rush each one. As the director I have also decided to have a rehearsal so that the actors know exactly what they are doing when we film we do not waste time telling them what to do.

Copyright Message to Linkin Park

I have sent Linkin Park an email asking for permission, I should hopefully hear back soon.

I couldn't find a "Contact us" link or anything like it on either the Linkin Park website or Warner Brothers Music, So I ended up signing up as a member then emailing Chester Bennington

I have just found a section where it allows you to send a message to "Team LP", on there section of the site it says you can contact them talking about the New Linkin Park website or ask them any questions you may have so I sent them the same message as I did to Chesters

storyboard animatic with lyrics

above is my final version of the story board animatic and I have made a few improvements as you can possibly see, if not then here they are:
1. in the first version there was a singer singing when there were no lyrics to be sung and I have put text over that picture saying that the singer is getting ready.
2. at 1:01 there is a shot of a guitarist strumming his strings yet there was no guitar being played in the background and I have solved this by swapping the guitar shot with a drum shot
3. there were shot of the band plugging in all of the equipment and there was music being played in the background and this did not fit so I have cut some of the songs beginning off to make it all fit together.
4. finally I have inserted lyrics into the animatic so that we can look at this storyboard video and then we will know exactly what to do as all of the needed information will be on the video , this includes shots, lyrics to be said and the timing

Audience Profiling Answers

Overall unexpectantly we have more people liking who said they liked the music genre Rock, also most people we asked said that they did like Linkin Park, although I suspect that they only like a couple of them, I believe this because of the Transformers movies and their collaborations with Jay-Z and Busta Rhymes, I think this because even though the majority of people put that they liked rock, Linkin Park has been featured as the official artists of the Transformers movies, and have made an album with Jay-Z as well as toured with them, they have also made singles with Busta Rhymes.

We also had the majority of people questioned answering that they preferred illustrate music videos, which also had a narrative compared to a live performance type video.

Ideas for Music Video

I had an idea for our music video,
We could use black and white shots for the husband when he finds out about his wife cheating on him, and colour for the wife, when she is cheating on her husband. I think this would look good because we could use the colour to represent the happiness of the wife and the black and white shots would show disappointment, upset, depression, unhappiness etc in the husbands feelings.

We could also change the wife's colour shots to black and white at the end after she slaps him and she realises what's she's doing. (I don't think this is as good an ideas as the first but I still like it, although I'm not sure how well it would work).

depending on the filming equipment we have, we plan on using a school camera and Darren's camera, I believe we might be able to film in black and white although it would probably look better if we filmed all in colour and added the black and white effects after production by using Sony's Vegas Pro 9 editing software.

(This last photo should be in colour although I thought it was appropriate to our narrative)

I also think we could maybe add in something similar to this, during editing (I believe with the software we are going to use it is), it would look best right towards the end.

Questionnaire Feedback

I have tried to scan my questionnaire feedback into my computer so I could put it on animoto, slideshare, flickr etc, but my computers keeps giving me a message saying use another scanner and my scanner says scanning but then does nothing. I am going to try again in the morning, then if that doesn't work I'll take photo's of them as. If I end up taking photo's of them I won't be uploaded until tomorrow evening, as I'm at Sheffield Hallam University open day, and probably won't be home until 5 or 6 o'clock especially as we think we may hit traffic from the Sheffield United match

video of me testing the green screen editing

as you can see the screen is blue rather than being green and there are two reasons why? the screen is blue because it is much more easier to get a hold of a blue material rather than green and also Sony Vegas pro can edit red, green, blue and purple and they all use the same methods of editing its just a different colour.

animatic storyboard version 2 (full video)

I have made this video as I have found out that the previous animatic storyboard that I have made is on animoto and this made the video inaccurate, therefore it was no use, this video has every shot that we will be having in our music video and they are all in sequence order, in the background there is the song to give it a maximum effect on what it will actually be like and to also help with the timing....

solution for drum filming?

we have been having problems for being able to transport and finding friends that are willing to let us take their drums to Rugby so I have came up with an idea to use 'green screen editing' and this is basically filming action in front of a green screen and then cutting out the green screen to allow the user to insert a clip / picture of their choice to the background and this could also be used to make the person go into impossible places. I will start to research into green screen editing and I will begin to learn how to edit the green screen clip....

This is in case we cannot get a hands on a drum kit before we film our draft.

Using MyChemical Romance for shot inspiration

This is Mychemical Romance's official video for their latest single, Na Na Na. there is a shot in it where you can see people walking but you can only see from their knees down.

Weather forcast

YoWindow.com
Forecast by yr.no

This post above is a weather for cast that I found on the internet as you can see it is able to tell me the weather. This will prove to be very useful because it means that when filming we will be able to plan according to what for cast, so for example if we want the weather to be sunny then I can use this to find out which day is foretasted to be sunny this means that time will not be wasted. As you can see the forecast system allows you to see the weather a week in advance which is very useful because most weather forecasts only let you see three days in advance. What I also like about this is that you can select your location so where ever you are planning to film which means you know what the weather will be in filming location.
One of the main reasons I like the this weather forecast is that I like the the way that it is user friendlily because it the way that it has a picture in the background according to what the weather is going to be like. I also like the other features that the system offer which is why i find it very useful and easy to understand.
The main features that the system offer include:

  • The temperature in degrees Celsius ( This is helpful because it means when filming we will be able to plan ahead and where the appropriate clothing and also make any adjustments to our filming)
  • Pressure (This will be helpful because it again means that we will be able to plan ahead and make any adjustments to the planning process)
  • Humidity (This will be very important because during filming we will need to monitor this because we do not want to work in high humidity conditions as it can become dangerous and also if we do we then need to make sure that we have enough liquid  to avoid dehydration)
  • The temperature ( This is very useful as well because it means that we can plan ahead and make sure that we have the right clothing because even the actual temperature might not be what it  feels like so we need to access this as well to get the best possible data  we can)
  • When it was last observed ( This very important because it shows that the data is constantly being updated which means that we are able to get more accurate results. As a result this means that we a are getting the beat data, out of all the features i feel that this is the best one because it shows changes in the weather, which then means our planning more accurate)

Prop list

As part of our preliminary we needed to create a list of props that we needed in order to make the music video, this was important because we needed have the props ready on the day we were going to film. The prop list that we came up with as a class is as follows.

  • Black board
  • Projector (old school)
  • Ties and white shirts
  • Guitar x3 for the 3 members of the group
  • Table and chairs
  • Red pencil
  • Paper/books
  • Chalk
  • School uniforms white shirt and black trousers
  • Girls
  • Black bracelet
  • Class room
  • White trainers with red
  • Red nail varnish
  • Red lipstick
  • Red pencil Skirt
  • Background boys
The props that I needed to wear for my part in the video was:
  • White shirt
  • Trousers
  • Tie
  • White trainers plus normal ones

Risk assessment for Busted Preliminary

As well as having a Prop list we also needed to create a risk assessment for the video, so that we would be aware of the hazards and have measures in place to reduce the likely hood of these hazards happen. To create the best risk assessment we worked together as a group to work out all the potential hazards, the hazards that we came up with are shown in the table below and  as you can see for every hazard it shows how we can minimize the risk.

Hazard
How it can be minimized
Table +chairs falling over
Make sure that all table and chairs are at the side of the room out the way
Jumping up and down and falling aucadally
Make sure that you do not jump to high and to fast as  this is when injure is most likely to occur.
Dark room
Make sure a light is turned out before so that we inspect the floor and room to see what hazards it has, before we start filming
Wires lying around
Make sure the wires are tied up and out of the way and in the corner, do not film in areas where cables and wires can not be moved.
People at the Gates
Make sure that  there is somebody at the gate weather it is a student or anther member of staff in school to make sure that nobody gets in the gates when we are filming the out door scene v
Projector
Do not stair straight into the projector as it may blind or cause eye damage so make sure nobody stairs straight into it at any time
Chewing gum
Do not chew gum when filming as it may cause an accident such as choking so make sure nobody in the group is chewing
Barging through people
Do not barge roughly through the people as it may cause injure, the best ways is to make it look aggressive but be gentle, also the people should move slightly as the person approaches them, to reduce the impact.
Bending down knee
Make sure that when you bend down you do not do it suddenly as this is when injure is most likely to occur, the best ways it do it gradually
Sensible shoes
Where sensible shoes for the scene  because we do not want people to twist their ankle due to the wrong shoes for example for the scene out side you cant wear hi heals because when you jump  you are bound to land awkwardly.
Guitar strap
Make sure the guitar strap is fastened properly so that the guitar does not fall or hit anyone else close by.
Paper cut
Take care when dealing with paper and try to keep fingers loose and do not grip the paper to tight as this is when cuts are more likely to happen
Long nails
Make sure that when coming into contact with other people they are not rough with their hands as this is cuts will happen so try to avoid to using your hands if you have long nails, this could be done by getting somebody else to do the scene who does not have long nails.

Urban colour scheme research

The colour scheme that we have tried to incorporate into our music video is mainly urbanely based colour because the basic plot to our film opening has building and other urban based scenery. The colours that we think that associate with urban is mainly the cold and dark colours. I have managed to find some sample that Think is similar colours that I would associate with urban

As well as using urban based colour we were also looking to use some warm colour like green because from the basic plot that we have I fell that we would be able to use a range of colour like the green during the performance side of the video because we are hoping to have it outside  with trees in the background.

colour wheel research

Theses are colour wheels that I found form the Goggle because I wanted to see what the different types of colours are so that we could then incorporate the colours into our project having looked at the wheels we have thought that it would more suitable to use a range of primary of and secondary colour because we felt that it would make more sense to both as we were unsure with we thought would be most suitable. The main primary colour that I think we might use the most for our film opening is the blue and yellow because as most of clip is out door we are more licklly to use these tow clour more because red is usually a colour used in indoor so we might use the red for the indoor scene.

The secondary colours that I think we would use the most is the orange and the green because they both fit into the narrative of our music video for example the green would work well because the performance side of the video we are hoping to have in the country with trees and other nature environment, these colours match well because when people think of out doors the main colours they think represent it most is the greens and blues more green if it is the countryside. The orangey colours that they are could be suitable to use becasue as out main colour theme is urban it may fit well however we will have to experiment with it first, to see if it will be suitable.

lyrics for Linkin Park What Ive Done

What I've Done
  • In this farewell
  • There’s no blood
  • There’s no alibi
  • ‘Cause I’ve drawn regret
  • From the truth
  • Of a thousand lies

  • [Pre-Chorus:]
  • So let mercy come
  • And wash away
  • What I’ve done

  • [Chorus:]
  • I'll face myself
  • To cross out what i’ve become
  • Erase myself
  • And let go of what i’ve done

  • Put to rest
  • What you thought of me
  • While I clean this slate
  • With the hands of uncertainty

  • [Pre-Chorus]

  • [Chorus]

  • For what I’ve done
  • I start again
  • And whatever pain may come
  • Today this ends
  • I’m forgiving what I’ve done!!!

  • [Chorus]

  • What I’ve done
  • Forgiving what I’ve done
These are the lyrics for our chosen song What ive Done by Linkin Park  we need to know these so that we can use it to plan our video because we will need to know when the words appear so that we can try and match the  video to the lyrics so for example when a specific word is mentioned we wanted to try and relate the shot to the word, so for what ive done we would have a shot of what a person has done.

clothing ideas for the band

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

research into the band clothing

For the music video that we will be making I have hcame up with an idea for what the performers will be wearing and this will reflict on the genre of the music video as we will be doing a rock music video. I have been looking into all of the different band artists that are associated with rock and her are some of the ideas for clothing:

in the picture above we have the lead singer from ACDC and he is called Brian Johnson, in this picture he is wearing dark clothes and these include a dark blue vest, a grey hat and black geans and this clothing is typical of a rock artist, also in the background there is a musition and he is wearing more or less the same apart from the colour of his jeans.

in the picture above there is a shot of all of the artists that are in the band and they are al wearing dark clothes that all look the same, they are all wearing suits and two of them are wearing coates, I might think about using some of these clothing ideas in our music video

in this picture above there is all of the artists that are in the band and they are all wearing casual wear as they are all wearing t-shirts apart from one and he is wearing a sirt and these are typical of a drummer in the bands, I think that we shoud use this type of clothing for the drummers that will be in the band in our music video.

in this picture above there is a rock band an in this picture the main singer is in bright colours and this would be to draw al of the attention to that singer, in the background there are three men in black clothing and these are typical of the rock genre.

I have akso done further study into what other rock bands looklike and this can be found under the title of Moodboard 1 (people in the band)
